Do more of the unpredictable in life, instead of being so predictable”

 ~ Jenn Shiells ~

Jennifer, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Robert and Catherine McMillan, and Lynden and Sheila Shiells.

Jennifer will be forever remembered by her partner Ivan Wong; their son, Kai; her parents Barry and Catherine Shiells; sister Andrea (Clint) Maduck; nephews Hudson and Trippton; sister Kirsten (Chris) Flaten; Ivan’s parents, John and Kitty Wong; brother Simon (Alycia) and their children Jadyn and Myah; sister Lisa (Kevin) Beynen and their children, Quinlan and Adelaide; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jenn was born in Weyburn and grew up in Estevan, Waskesiu Lake, and Mankota before her family settled in Yorkton, where she graduated from the Yorkton Regional High School. Early part time jobs included: waitressing, working in retail and blockbusters, because of her love of movies. Eventually a company transfer with Image Cable took her to Regina and in January 2001, Jenn began her career with the RCMP as a telecom operator up until retirement in May 2022. Along the way, she met Ivan, also from Yorkton, and their relationship began. In January 2015, they were excited to welcome baby Kai. In October of that year, Jenn was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Jenn loved to travel – her first trip to France in Grade 12 kicked off her love for adventure. After that came, Cuba, Mexico, California, Las Vegas, Seattle, and New York. After Kai was born, the family took numerous beach holidays, and in 2017, she and Ivan took a bucket list trip to Italy.

Jenn loved old movies from the ‘80’s and ‘90’s and going out for coffee with her friends. Over the years, Jenn made many lasting friendships that were very special to her. She always liked to celebrate birthdays at the Keg, for the free Billie Miner Pie! It was her favorite. Jenn loved watching Hallmark movies, and she loved Christmas, most of all.

Jenn loved to spend time with her grandparents at Steep Rock, Manitoba, swimming, playing, and picking raspberries. It was a special place she held close to her heart.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Salim and his team at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic; to the Tom Baker Cancer Center in Calgary, AB; to all the amazing nurses that took such great care in Jenn’s final days; and to the wonderful team on unit 3A, Pasqua Hospital, for the comfort and care shown to Jenn and her family throughout this difficult time.

A Celebration of Jenn’s Life will take place at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Carla Blakley presiding. Interment will be held at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Those so wishing to make donations, in memoriam, may do so to Hospitals of Regina Foundation, 1874 Scarth Street, Regina, SK S4P 4B3, targeted to unit 3A, Palliative Care, Pasqua Hospital.
