GEE, Jim Pan

1931-2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Pan Gee announce his unexpected passing on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the age of 92.  He was predeceased by his wife Jane Gee; parents George and Sue Gee; and brother Chuck Gee.

Jim is survived by his six sons, Hartland, Archie (Bev), Edgar, Ivan, Calvin, Darcy (Renai); their children, Malia, Kai and Meagan, as well as his sister-in-law Helen Chin; and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.

Jim was born in Taishan, Guangdong Province, China in 1931 and came to Canada in 1952 to work with his father and grandfather in Cadillac, SK.  He only stayed a short time in Cadillac before moving on to work in various restaurants in and around Regina.  In 1955, his father and mother moved to Regina and purchased Ideal Tea Room on Dewdney Avenue. Jim again went to work for his father and eventually he would take over ownership of Ideal and later converted the business to be Ideal Confectionery.  In 1958, he married Fay Jane Mah and together they raised their six sons while owning and operating Ideal Tea Room/Confectionery for over 40 years. With a growing young family and small business, there was little time for anything other than family and work.   Jim was a hard working, strong and self-reliant man his entire life.  Throughout his working life he worked long hours but never complained about it.  Jim was a social man who loved to chat with his customers and as a result he became well known in the neighbourhood.  Family was important to him. He worked hard so that his family could prosper. His grandchildren were precious to him and brought him much joy.

Dad, we are happy that you are now reunited with mom. We thank you for all that you have done for us, we love you and will forever cherish the memory of you.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will also be at Speers Funeral Chapel, on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.  with interment in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery to follow.
