HANNAN, Thomas “Tom”

1922 – 2023

With love and gratitude for a long, full life, we say goodbye to our beloved uncle, Tom, at the age of 100.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Dawson and Elizabeth (Renwick) Hannan; his three brothers and their wives, George (Dorothy), Jim (Wynne) and Raymond (Evelyn); his nieces Jean Warwick (Terry deceased), Karen Otten (Dale deceased) and Marge Ordano (Bud); and nephew Daryl Hannan (Linda).

Mourning his loss are his nephews and their extended families, Doug Hannan (Leona deceased), Wayne Hannan (Ruth deceased), Earl Hannan (Mary), Lyle Hannan (Jean); his nieces and their extended families, Beth King (Greg), Linda Hannan and Jean, Karen, and Marge’s children.

Tom was born in the Buck Lake district and the family later moved to Gray, SK.  After high school, he attended Normal School. A three-year stint in the Canadian Armed Forces, beginning in 1943, interrupted his education.  After discharge he earned his B.Ed from the University of Saskatchewan and later a BA from the University of Regina.

Tom spent 20 years as a teacher and/or principal in many small Saskatchewan towns. He gave his all to his students, influencing them to do their best and take pride in their achievements.  In 1968 he became an instructor at the Correspondence School in Regina, where he remained until his retirement in 1986.

Tom became active in Masonry in 1949 when he became a member of Gray Lodge which later amalgamated with Milestone Lodge.  He held several positions and received his 60-year recognition award.  In 1956, Tom became a member of the Milestone Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, serving in several offices, numerous committees, and receiving his 50-year recognition award.

In 1961, he began his work with the Scottish Rite Masonry and was actively involved throughout his life.

Tom was a long time and beloved member of St. Paul’s Cathedral. He served on several committees, sang in the choir, assisted with communion, and volunteered his time to many projects and outreach programs.

Tom will be laid to rest with his parents at the Regina City Cemetery.  His funeral will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK on May 4th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.

Those so wishing may make donations in his memory to St. Paul’s Cathedral or to a charity of their choice.
