I have so many fond memories of late night chats with Charlie in CCR at CBC. A kind and gentle soul who supported me so much when I first entered the world of radio documentaries. It was such a beautiful service today—full of so much love. I am sure all the birds in heaven are singing songs up there for a man so devoted to family.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Charlie’s family. I had the pleasure of knowing Charlie through Anna and our teaching careers in Saskatoon. Charlie’s pride in Anna’s accomplishments was evident through his big smile, his big hugs, those incredible sparkling eyes and the straining buttons! I was lucky enough to also sample his world famous cookies and receive a CBC apron.
Farewell Charlie…rest now …you leave a beautiful family to carry on your love and life. Well done.

Our condolences to the Schell family, he was so fiercely proud of all of you.
Charlie was a gem of a guy who will be sorely missed by all that knew him. I have many fond memories of the time we spent together at CBC. His love of “critters” was well known, who else could we ask to adopt our parakeets or look after our chickens, llamas, horses, dogs and cats.
Rest well my friend, you have a wonderful legacy in your family.

I am saddened to learn of Charlie's passing. In the days at CBC Radio when I had to call Charlie to feed a story from Saskatoon to Regina, he often offered a little joke and a chuckle, which helped brighten the day for both of us I think. And, of course, his famous cookies which he made and sent to us on a regular basis were the sign of a caring person.

All the best to the Schell family. I have such fond memories of Charlie... what a kind man! For those us who worked with him, he was always someone you could count on to get you out of a pinch, and to our kids who would come in to visit, he was the Candy Man. Who could forget Charlie's blue whales?
It was a pleasure to have him as a friend and a co-worker. He shall be missed. RIP Charlie!

My second year of university a friend and I rented a house, where the basement was rented out separately. Thankfully God has his hand all over that situation and blessed me by having Anna & Ghia as down stairs room mates. Charlie adopted us girls upstairs and was always available to help and fill in that Father figue we needed living in the city. His warmth, his love, and his laughter will never be forgotten.
Thank you Schell family for having that same light your Dad had within him!

Charlie was always so patient with us young 'uns joining the CBC. He'd always be there to fix our mistakes and would share that smile and laugh so freely. He also freely shared buckets of candy and sweets that would always draw us to CCR for a visit. I also remember how proud he was of his family and how important they were to him. Sending love and virtual sweets to you all as you grieve this wonderful man. XOX Coreen Larson
