Obituary of Allan Ivan Massier
MASSIER, Allan Ivan “Al”
July 13, 1935—July 29, 2023
Allan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the age of 88 years. He was predeceased by his parents (William and Anna); his sister Bernice; brother-in-law Eddy; nephew, Grant; and son in-law Ken Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty; daughter Kelly, (grandchildren, Jeramie, and Kendra); son Todd (daughter in law Carmen, grandchildren, Josh, Nicole and Alyssa). Allan was born on the farm near Southey, SK. He attended elementary school at Crossroads, a one room schoolhouse. His family moved to Southey so that he could attend high school there. He loved chemistry so much that his teacher gave him the key to the lab and he was the valedictorian of his class. He helped his dad on the farm and later in the meat locker plant when they moved to Southey. Allan continued his education at the University of Saskatchewan, earning a degree in Civil Engineering in 1959. While he was going to the U of S, he worked summers for the Department of Highways doing road construction. It was while he was working on the roads near Hawarden that he met the love of his life Betty. They were married on November 28, 1959. They then moved to Weyburn, Yorkton and then Regina in 1963 where he worked for the Department of Highways as Director of Management Services. He retired after 32 years with the Department of Highways. Allan then worked with a Consulting Firm and later joined a local computer business as their manager for a few years. Allan was a devoted Christian and was involved in the Lutheran Church his entire life. He volunteered in many capacities for Mount Olive Lutheran Church, including chairman, elder and visiting the sick. He was also a member of the District Mission Board. Allan loved to travel, from camping with his family to trips with his wife Betty and friends. Allan and Betty loved their trips to Israel, Denmark, and Ukraine. Allan was an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider Fan! He wore green even when it wasn’t game day. Allan loved his grandchildren, watching them participate in many activities and enjoyed their visits and discussions. He has been called home to join his Heavenly Father and is at peace. He will be sadly missed by his earthly family. Always in our hearts. We love you.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff on 4C at the Pasqua Hospital for their care and compassion. We would also like to thank Dr. Mark Cameron for his compassionate care over the years.
