Edelgard Gerda Weslowski (nee Jantz) passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Regina, SK at the age of 84 years. She was predeceased by her brother Gerhard Erich (1938); parents Theodor Jantz (1986) and Lydia Jantz (1995); and husband Alvin Weslowski (2013). Left to mourn and cherish her memory are sons Derrick (Amy) and Kevin (Shelley); grandchildren Merica, Maverick, Alexis, and Hunter; as well as extended family and friends in Canada and Germany.
Edelgard was born on July 13, 1939, in Edam, SK. After graduating high school from the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, SK, she worked at SaskTel in North Battleford and in Yorkton as a telephone operator and supervisor from 1956 to 1968. She married Alvin Weslowski on June 1, 1968. Together, they operated a dairy farm near Davin, SK until 1982, they then grain farmed until 2010. In 2015, Edelgard left the farm and moved to Regina.
Edelgard was often known as 'Oma' to more than just her grandchildren. She had a warm and welcoming nature that made it easy for her to forge friendships, and she delighted in hosting family, friends, and neighbours for meals, creating cherished moments of togetherness and joy. Her straightforward attitude, marked by honesty and directness, endeared her to all who knew her. Edelgard's talents extended to baking as well, bringing comfort and delight to those lucky enough to enjoy her homemade treats. She had a special place in her heart for gardening, flowers, and the cherished animals on the farm. Her love for nature's beauty, including sunrises, sunsets, and rainbows, reflected her deep appreciation for the world around her. In the winter, her favourite pastime was sewing. Countless hours were spent making quilts, clothing, and other items. Often, her friends and family were the beneficiaries of the fruits of her labours.
Even after retiring, she continued to find joy in the simple pleasures, like admiring a well-cultivated crop in the field. She also enjoyed taking drives to Tim Hortons and other coffee places to visit friends, further showcasing her love for companionship and connection.
Edelgard's faith was an important part of her life. She attended church regularly and found solace in watching services online, even when she could not attend in person. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. May her memory continue to inspire us all.
A Funeral Service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3825 Hillsdale St, Regina, SK on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Donations in memory of Edelgard may be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 400-185 Carlton Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J1.
