My condolences to the Lang family.
My association with Hellmut has been a long one that I am deeply distressed to end. He was a good man, solid and dependable. He carried the torch high for education and passed the torch, burning brightly, on to many generations of young teachers in Saskatchewan.
I first knew Hellmut in the early 70s, when his children went to St. Mark school, where I was teaching at the time. I don't think I taught any of the children but I taught their cousins, the Rudersdorfers and have retained a friendship with Cecile ever since.
I worked with Hellmut over many years at the Faculty of Education in the 80s and 90s. His office was right down the hall and his door was always open for a good discussion on educational issues. He was a fine colleague and a gifted educator. Education in this province has lost a strong champion.
Deepest Sympathies,
Margaret Lipp

My heartfelt thoughts and wishes are with the entire Lang family at this sad time. My deepest sympathies on your loss.
Though I knew Mr. Lang only in passing through his son it was obvious to feel when in his presence that he was a man of great substance. And after reading these other heartfelt tributes written here, that is only made all the more apparent, as I learn - all that he was.
My own sister was a teacher who encountered Mr. Lang at the start of her career and she told me he left no small impression. I am sure she is not the only one to feel that way. A loss felt by many.
I wish strength and peace for the whole Lang family and I hope there is some small comfort in knowing that Mr. Lang had a long life, well lived.

To Leona and children
I was sorry to hear that my longtime neighbour and colleague had passed on Friday. Having attended several of the family's events including the 50th anniversary party and several weddings, I was happy that he surrounded by the family at the last days but saddened by their loss.

Dear Leona and family,
My sincere condolences go to you on the loss of Hellmut. As you Leona no doubt know my association with Hellmut goes back to university days; we were colleagues in the Faculty of Education at the U of R. I retired in 1992 and our paths did not cross often. The last association we had was probably out at the curling rink. If it was not for the obit in the LP I would probably not have known about his passing.
May God grant Hellmut eternal rest and peace in His Heavenly Kingdom!

I am Hellmut's oldest son. Thank you for your kind tributes. Another thing that should be recognized was Dad's love of music, which I share. Though not religious, he recognized the beauty of great music, and could not help joining in with his superior tenor voice, during his semiannual visits to church in Yorkton. Everyone would turn around and look - and the priest. Dad would listen to classical music on CBC on Sundays in Yorkton. There, he was leader of the Barbershoppers (SPEBSQSA). His parents had him educated in violin, and he gave recitals in rural Saskatchewan. He later took voice training at the time he went to University. My grandparents were among the last of the "old people", as those who grew up before WW1 in the old Austro-Hungarian Empire were known; they helped impart to him a love of fine music. In those days, it was what is broadly called classical music. Go on to YouTube, and listen to Richard Tauber singing in German - as he could - that was the caliber of his voice.

To Leona, and the Hellmut Lang Family & Friends,
Sad, very sad to see such a swell person leave us all in such short notice...Hellmut was a one-of-a-kind individual who I always enjoyed his presence.
We should not forget that along with Hellmut's Professional Achievements, he was previously a member of the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton and Regina K40 Club...and one heck of a good gardener at the Regina South Zone Community Gardens.
My thoughts are with you all.
"Under the wide & sunny Saskatchewan sky", let Hellmut lie.
Bye Hellmut...
Paul

I am so sorry to hear of Hellmut's passing. I worked at SUNTEP in the early years, and later the Faculty of Education and First Nations University. Helmutt was such a critical supporter and champion of Aboriginal education, first in his role as administrator, but perhaps more importantly, in his many later years as teacher and supervisor. He worked with literally dozens of students over the years, and was invariably passionate, compassionate and supportive. He was a friend, mentor and colleague to many. My sympathies to the family.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of your husband and father. I have many childhood memories of your dad sitting in his favourite chair in the basement. He always had a smile and a hello, or off to a golf game.
