Roberta Mireau

Obituary of Roberta Bradford Mireau

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the unexpected death of our beloved sister, sister-in-law and aunt, Roberta Mireau on January 23, 2015. Roberta was born in Regina on June 1, 1940 to Harry and Marg Walker. Roberta's working life was spent in the health care field as a nurse, an educator and finally in administration at the Plains Health Centre; a hospital she dearly loved and was very proud of. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her late thirties, Roberta's philosophy was, “I have to live with this ... but it has to live with me”. Her stubborn determination and the grace and dignity with which she coexisted with MS were an inspiration to her family and all she met. As Roberta's mobility became more difficult, her attitude was that she would not mourn what she had lost but would celebrate what she was still able to do. She did not let the challenges of MS deter her from her love of travelling or continuing the activities she enjoyed with family and friends. She was not pleased that she physically missed the annual sibling holiday in Mexico that she had booked and was so looking forward to but she was most definitely there in Mexico with us in spirit. Roberta dealt with her recent diagnosis of Cancer as she did with all aspects of her life; controlling what she could, accepting what she had to accept and above all, with deep concern for her family and friends. Roberta refused to surrender to either MS or Cancer and died due to the effects of complications during a recent hospital stay. Roberta had many roles in life, all of which she did very well but for us, her family, she accepted the role of Matriarch that we thrust upon her following our Mother's death. She did so with humour, patience and was not only our sister and aunt but our mentor, our adviser, our medical resource, (Dr. Bun Fuzz), organizer of family events and our friend. Family was Roberta's priority and we are all so very grateful for the gift that she was and continues to be in our lives. Predeceased by our parents Harry and Marg Walker, Roberta is survived by her brother Cliff (Fran) Walker; sister Harriet (Lloyd) Greenhow; nephews and niece, Michael Greenhow, Aaron (Aleigh) Walker, Nathan (Vilosheni) Walker, Greg (Tammy) Greenhow, Laurel (Michael) Lamont and “the greats”, Jaclyn, Katelyn, Brendan, Sophia and Isaac. Roberta had many wonderful and very supportive friends whom she appreciated very much but special mention must be made of Marlene Lindberg, who has been there for not only Roberta but for our family as well. At Roberta's request there will not be a funeral, however we do intend to honour her in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saskatchewan Nursing Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or the charity of your choice, would be appreciated by family. How lucky I am to have something that makes saying good bye so hard. Winnie The Pooh
