Dean Pifko

Obituary of Dean Russel Pifko

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dean Russel Pifko on January 25, 2015 in Regina, SK. where he presently resided. Dean was born in Moose Jaw, SK on May 22, 1968. He was predeceased by his parents Russel and Phyllis (Sastaunik) Pifko; his Grandparents William and Charlotte Sastaunik of Melville, SK and his Grandparents Adolf and Emily Pifko also of Melville, SK. as well as many close friends and relatives. While growing up in Estevan, SK he enjoyed the country life – he learned and excelled at fishing, boating, hunting and skiing. Dean loved the freedom of the outdoors! He always said, “You can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy!” Dean loved to live in smaller rural cities where he felt more comfortable and generally at ease. He particularly was content to be a “home body” puttering around and not a world traveler. After graduating from SIAST in Moose Jaw, Dean began his career in the Cable business with Image Cable inYorkton, then was situated in Manor and on to Cable Regina. This led to his lengthy career at SaskTel, one which he very much enjoyed, not only because it was interesting and challenging, but because he had great co-workers. In his spare time, his passions included riding his motorcycle, hunting for bargains at garage sales, and of course cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders. His greatest pride and joy in life were his boys, Garret and Justin, and he cherished every moment he spent with them. He loved to attend their soccer and football games. His dog “Mocha” was his long-time companion whom he adored as she gave him much pleasure from when she was a puppy to being fully grown….he had some funny stories to tell you about her escapades! Dean had a contagious smile, a gentle nature – he was a quiet, reserved person at times, too. However, he shared jokes with friends, loved to laugh with you, but could be serious and offer advice when necessary – he will be remembered for his good nature and as a caring, loving best friend to those who knew him well. He leaves to mourn his passing: his two sons, Garret Pifko and Justin Pifko of Saskatoon, a sister Lisa Pifko of Calgary, his beloved dog Mocha of Regina, an Aunt Jollean Shandler (Godmother) of Calgary, a special friend Cathy Ferwerda of Regina, and many close relatives and friends. We feel the pain and sadness in our hearts, but we also remember the wonderful times we were given to share and cherish those special moments together. It is our gain in our own lives which have been immensely enriched by Dean’s spirit and soul while we celebrate his life’s journey today. He will always be remembered and hold a special place in our hearts! May he rest in peace as the Lord holds him in His precious hands forever and ever! Dean, you will be always loved and never forgotten!! A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 31, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave, Regina, SK.
