James Williams

Obituary of James Dennis Williams

August 11, 1942 – June 26, 2015 Jim passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, June 26, 2015 following heart failure. He was predeceased by his parents, Cecilia (née Lutz) and Roy Williams; and siblings, Margie Moy and Donald Williams. Jim is survived by his brother Thomas Williams of Vienna, Ohio; nine nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was also like an uncle to the entire community of Wilcox, SK. Jim devoted the last 58 years of his life to Notre Dame. He began as a student and trained as a teacher and librarian. He exemplified loyalty and total commitment to the high ideals of Père Athol Murray. Jim was a Mother Teresa award winner and lived the Mother Teresa adage to “do small things with great love”. Jim expressed ‘small things’ in so many ways within the College, with the Wilcox community and with the students he loved unconditionally – even to the point of weekly bringing roses to a former student for 15 years at the Wascana Rehabilitation Center. He was zealous about his St. Augustine parish where he acted as chair of the maintenance committee and curator of the Tower of God. His final project was procuring for the church, a stained glass portrait of his mentor, Athol Murray, done by the Rault Brothers of Rennes, France. He will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched with generosity. His brother and Notre Dame family would like to give grateful thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Regina General Hospital Cardiac Care Unit for their stellar care. Prayers will be at St. Augustine’s R.C. Church, Wilcox, SK on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at the same location on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Wilcox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations in memory of Jim to the Father Athol Murray Award, or, the Jimmy Williams Legacy Award to be established at: Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, Box 100, Wilcox, SK, Canada, S0G 5E0.
