Rev. Peter Luttmer

Obituary of Rev. Peter Harry Luttmer

REV. PETER HARRY LUTTMER JANUARY 12, 1952 – JULY 1, 2015 Father Peter died peacefully with his twin brother by his side, on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Peter, son of Mitzi and William Luttmerding, was raised on a small dairy farm and attended Etaples, a one room school house. With his twin brother Paul, oldest brother Walter, and their maternal grandfather, he grew up in what is today thought of as a kind of idyllic prairie childhood. At age 23, Peter had graduated university and entered St. Joseph’s Seminary in Edmonton. Upon graduation in 1979, he was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Halpin. He was first sent as an assistant to Fr. Sullivan in Weyburn, and shortly thereafter, to serve as Pastor at St. Joseph’s Claybank. After too brief a stay, he was sent to Canora, then Moose Jaw, and then a two year sabbatical. On his return, he served at St. Cecilia’s in Regina and St. James in Southey. Due to his lifelong struggles with kidney disease, in 1997 Peter took medical leave from his ministry and would until the end of his life, live with his brother Paul, first at Last Mountain Lake, then for ten years in Bulyea, and finally in a condo on Stockton Street in Regina. Peter lost two of his older brothers, Walter and Rudy, in the last few years. He leaves to mourn his twin brother Paul and brother Gerald; his nieces, Jeanette and Roseanne; many cousins and many friends. The Funeral Mass with be held at Our Lady of Grace R. C. Church, 113 Elgin Street, Sedley SK, on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Louis Abello officiating.
