I was saddened to hear the news of the passing of someone I truly respected. Not only did I grow up with Susan and Sean but Mr. Naylen was one of my first baseball coaches. The joy and enthusiasm that he brought to the game will never be forgotten by me.
In addition, Mr. Naylen likely had a pretty good idea from an early stage that I would follow my dad's footsteps into criminal law. When I was a young boy he tried to refer a rather serious criminal case to me over the phone. When I told him that I was only 10 and he would have to give me a chance to go to law school first, he let out a laugh that still makes me smile and asked to speak with my dad. For whatever reason, I think about that story often.
My condolences to the Naylen family. Your dad will be missed.

To Marilyn & family:
Elaine and I are deeply saddened to learn of Gerald's sudden passing. Regrettably, we are unable to attend the funeral service to express our sorrow in person, but we are currently out of the country.
Gerald played a significant role in the development of my legal career in, at least, two respects. Firstly, as a sage and experienced mentor throughout my time in private practice. Secondly, as a trusted and supportive partner during the time we practiced together. I am very grateful that Gerald was a significant part of my career.
Marilyn, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our deepest sympathies are with our dear friend Marilyn and the entire Naylen and Scheibel family. Our hearts and prayers are with you during this time of grieving. We will always remember Gerald as an incredible family man and friend who loved to entertain and make us laugh. We cherish the memories of exploring new areas in Florida, especially beautiful gardens and sunsets where he took amazing photos. He saw the beauty of nature everywhere. His wisdom and down-to-earth enjoyment of being with family and friends shone through. If there is anything we can do, Marilyn, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Marilynn and family...I am really saddened to learn of Gerald's passing. I am in Arizona and unable to attend the memorial service but my thoughts are with you all. Gerald and I were on the opposite side of the negotiation table a few times when I was Chief of Police but I can honestly say I harbored no ill feelings during those encounters as we really didn't know each other. It wasn't until we were behind the BBQ's that our friendship grew. We had a great many laughs during those times outside Mosaic Field and other locations.
I had to tell him one time that Toupin and I had formed a union and we were comptemplating a walkout unless our labor demands were met. I never heard him laugh so long and hard. We gave in to his final offer for the following year and the signing bonus was whatever we wanted at the Tasty Freeze.
When my times were tough on losing my Kathleen, you two were there to offer your condolences and support. My prayers are with you.
