Obituary of Gerald Edward Naylen

Gerald passed away suddenly on December 14, 2015 at the age of 75. Gerald is survived by Marilyn, his loving wife of 46 years; his children, Susan (Brian), Sean (Candice) and Catherine; grandchildren John, William, Grace, Faith, Declan and Tessa; his siblings John (Betty) Naylen, Tom (Bev) Naylen, Norah (Gerald) Scheibel, Patrick Naylen, Peter (Tina) Naylen; loving in-laws, Eugene Scheibel and Jean Scheibel as well as his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Ruth Naylen, and family Roy and Shirley Seman, Yvette Scheibel and Leonard Scheibel. Gerald was born in Maryfield, SK and raised in Butler, MN. He left the homestead in 1958 to attend the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws. After articling, he attended the London School of Economics in England, earning his Master in Laws. As a practicing lawyer, Gerald regularly represented the Police and Firefighter’s Unions in arbitration and mediation. He was passionate about his clients and viewed all of them as friends. Gerald spent years volunteering on various non-profit boards including the Alzheimer Society and at the Regina Exhibition Association. He was the Exhibition’s longest serving President and extremely proud to have overseen the construction and opening of Queensbury Downs. Gerald’s legacy is his great love for family and friends. He showed great devotion to his three children and to Marilyn, the love of his life. Gerald treasured every minute with his grandchildren. He loved to spend time with them and they even laughed at his bad jokes. Gerald enjoyed his summers at Pasqua Lake, winters in Sarasota Florida, fishing with family and friends and taking/sharing photos of all the important people and moments in his life. Gerald and Marilyn were happiest when surrounded by family and friends, and they loved to host; at home, at the lake, at their place in Florida or anywhere he would be allowed to BBQ. He will be remembered for his perseverance, his sense of humour, commitment to family and his willingness to serve others. He will be deeply missed by many. A Funeral Service will be held at the Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2104 Garnet Street, Regina, SK, on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11:00 am with a lunch to follow.
