Obituary of Thomas Dwayne Balkwill
THOMAS BALKWILL
November 27, 1946 - December 31, 2015
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Dwayne Balkwill on Thursday, December 31, 2015 with his family at his side. Tom was predeceased by his loving wife Elaine Dorothy Balkwill; brother-in-law Jerry Toews; and father-in-law A. Jim Hischebett. He will be mournfully missed and lovingly remembered by his sons, Steve (Angie), Dean (Lisa), and Danny (Katie); as well as his grandchildren, Jordan, Sumner, Parker, Finley, Kate, Aimee, and Jake. His memory will also be cherished by his father Neil; mother Doris; brother Chris (Kim); sister Marilyn (Phil); brothers-in-law, Bob (Debby) and Rick (Leah); sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Karen (Tom); and the entire Hischebett family. Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of solid commitment and responsibility towards his friends, colleagues and loved ones. This was evident in his career with the City of Regina, where he held many jobs in different departments. He married his best friend and high-school sweetheart Elaine and started a family he was fiercely proud of. Tom worked hard to afford his family many things which brought great joy and togetherness to their lives, like his cottage at Katepwa Lake, or season tickets to his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders. He loved travelling to sunny destinations and cruising with his wife, her sister Marilyn and his best bud Jerry. He always loved music but his passion intensified when he joined the male barbershop chorus. Barbershop music and a cappella singing became his true joy and lifeblood. One of Tom’s greatest accomplishments was singing in his barbershop quartet, Acappella Attitude. He developed a love for performing and bringing joy to the many who heard their group. He also established an unwavering brotherhood with his quartet members Gord, Bill and Darrell. He passed peacefully in time to spend New Year’s Eve with his beautiful bride. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Living Skies Barbershop Chorus of Regina, 4742 Mazinke Crescent, Regina, SK, S4X 4T9.
