Obituary of Derek Daniel Taylor
DEREK DANIEL TAYLOR
It is with overwhelming sadness and broken hearts we announce the tragic passing of Derek on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Karen and Danny Taylor; his brother Travis (Janaye); the love of his life Juliesa Stacheruk, along with her parents, Ronaele and Rick, and younger brother Jaylen; grandparents, Marion Betcher, Hilda and Erwin Taylor; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.
Derek came into our lives on December 14, 1984. He was an adventurous, fiercely independent and extremely busy little boy that filled our lives with joy. He was thrilled to become a big brother when Travis came into our lives five years later. From that day forward, Derek became Travis’ best friend, worst enemy (at times) and mentor. Together they formed a bond that could never be broken.
Through his love of hockey he formed many lasting friendships. Outside of the arena, Derek was artistic, ambitious, witty beyond words, and driven. He challenged himself and everyone around him to be the best person they could be. Derek attended SIAST, taking Electrical Engineering Technology. He started his career with MEC, and a few years later started his own company.
In May of 2011, he achieved his lifelong dream and purchased the cottage, his sanctuary, his haven, his home. With the help of many friends and family, he transformed the dilapidated cabin into a place where he could live life to the fullest, surrounded by the people he loved. He had a passion for creating and designing, fixing and tinkering; and loved to watch his imagination come to life. With determination and persistence, nothing was impossible to Derek.
Derek was a sensitive, caring, loyal and compassionate person. His love for the outdoors and animals led him to many hobbies such as fishing, golfing (getting a hole-in-one at Katepwa Golf Course), sledding and beating everyone at cards. Derek was a competitor, winning wasn’t everything... it was the only thing!
Derek left our lives much too early, but he left us all with many memories to keep our hearts full forever.
There will be a viewing for family and friends on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. The Celebration of Derek’s Life will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel.
