Obituary of Rosalind Grace Morgan

Grace passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Tuesday February 2, 2016 at the age of 81 years after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan in 1934, Rosalind Grace Hrytzak (daughter of Isadore and Kathleen) grew up in Yellow Creek, moved briefly to Saskatoon, and eventually settled in Regina. Grace was a lifelong scholar and researcher (BA from the University of Saskatchewan; BA and MA from the University of Regina; PhD from the University of Alberta). Trained in anthropology, Grace brought a unique ecological understanding to her field, studying the patterns of sustainability that marked plains indigenous peoples’ relationships to beaver and bison resources. In earlier times, Grace was a talented classical violinist and opera singer. Grace took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, Brian (Allison), Jerry (Lingyu), Michael (Michelle), Kim (Bruce); her grandchildren Natasha, Jason, Andrew, Sarah, Jesse, Jarrod and Delaney, and great granddaughter, Emma-Rose. She will also be deeply missed by her brother Donald (Donna), and nieces Dara (Michael) and Desya. For family and friends, a celebration of Grace’s life is planned for this summer. Flowers are graciously declined. Those who wish, may make a donation to Ovarian Cancer Canada in honour of Grace.
