Obituary of Vera (Ortanzia) Donison

VERA DONISON November 23, 1929 – March 13, 2016 With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our dearest mother, Vera Donison. In her loving home, surrounded by her children and granddaughter, Vera “left this old world” on Sunday March 13, 2016, the day known as the “Sunday of Forgiveness” in the Romanian Orthodox faith. Born on November 23, 1929, to Sylvia and Arthur Baiton, she grew up in the Spring Valley area until she married George Donison, October 15, 1949. Together, they resided close to Crystal Hill on the Donison family farm in the Avonlea district. Vera will be fondly remembered for her vibrant personality, zany sense of humour, gracious hospitality, welcoming heart, defining hats and elegant dress, cooking and baking expertise, strength and independence, unwavering faith, zest for life and embodying the spirit of the Baiton and Donison families’ matriarch. Inducted as a life time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vera was also an active member of and loyal friend to many in the Avonlea and Spring Valley communities. Vera Donison was a remarkably unique woman who is survived by her children, Dennis, Jennifer and Cheryl Donison; grandchildren Kim Goodwin, James, Kathleen, Danielle and Tyler Donison; great grandchildren Ryan (Jessica), Darian, Reese and Lexy Goodwin; siblings Paula (Art) Unger, Elie (Carol) Baiton, Nick (Sherry) Baiton, Marjory Neufeld, Florence (Barry) Wind-Riddell and Doreen Koskie. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
