Obituary of David 'Dave' Paul Hornung

DAVID PAUL HORNUNG March 29, 1936 – April 29, 2016 David (Dave) passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016 at the age of 80 years. Dave was born on a farm south of Dysart and always took pride in rattling off the homestead’s location (S4-T22-R15-W2). Many wonderful memories were made on the farm as a child, and as an adult he enjoyed taking his family to work the land and plant the potato garden. Dave earned two degrees from the U of S, a B.A. and B.Ed. He was a successful and respected teacher and principal in the RCSD for 31 years and, after retirement, as a sessional lecturer in the Ed. Dept. at the U of R for 14 years. Dave enjoyed teaching, golfing, farming, gardening, history, and woodcarving. He loved music with a great bass line and enjoyed singing. He shared his talents and skills with many people, and especially enjoyed giving away his creations to others. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Cathedral choir for many years. His passion for learning and knowledge knew no bounds. Dave will be missed especially by the people whose lives he has touched and by those who shared his interests. Dave was predeceased by his daughter AnnMarie Novak (1999), mother Anna, father Paul, and siblings Mary, Frieda, Ed, and Molly. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Mary (Koubek), and his brother Ike (Louise). Dave is also survived by his children Doug (Lisa), Teresa (Neil) and David (Tanya). He has seven grandchildren (Derrick, Andrew, Taylor, Rachel, Maria, Emily and Luke), and three great-grandchildren (Kaitlyn, Elaina and Sam) that he loved dearly. Dave enjoyed reading their report cards and would be proud of their educational achievements. Dave has numerous nieces and nephews as well. Thank you to EMS (Brent and team) and to firefighters (Miles and team), and to Dr. Hanson and Michael at the Regina General Hospital for their professionalism and compassion during this difficult time. Thank you to Dr. McMillan for being Dave’s long term physician and friend. Dave will be interred at Regina Memorial Gardens with a private ceremony. Donations may be made, in memory of Dave, to a charity of your choice. Gifts and flowers respectfully declined.
