Obituary of Julia Ann Tocker

June 11, 1926 to May 12, 2016 “Don’t be sad … we really did have a beautiful life.” Our lovely Mom passed away quietly at home on Thursday May 12, 2016. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 67 years, James; son Russell (Cindy); grand-daughter Robyn and daughter Marcia Appleyard. Mom grew up on an Esterhazy farm in the hard times of the 1930’s. She chose to remember happy things … running in the fields with her brothers, the good food her mother provided for 18 children, her dad’s love of his violin, sports days and her own love of school. In 1948 she and her young husband James, whom she had known since childhood, struck out on their own to build a life in Regina. Mom left a good job in 1956 so that they might adopt children. She was always there when we came home, dispensing the day’s baking and lessons for life. Both Mom and Dad were kind to all and ready to help family, friends or a neighbour in need. They also gave their time and work generously to Holy Cross Parish. Mom returned to paid work in 1976 at Miller Catholic High School, where she fed and instructed a multitude of students. They returned her gentle ways with genuine affection for 16 years. Our mom’s life revolved around the things she loved best … husband, children, home, good food and God. After retiring she had the joy of her grand-daughter Robyn, the cottage at Fort Qu’Appelle and good health well into her 80’s. Her strength and good nature through a long decline was remarkable. Her kindness and strength both touched and amazed the hearts of many for her almost 90 years in our midst. Our heartfelt thanks to the RQHR Palliative Home Care Team who helped us make her last year possible in the place she loved the best. It was an honour to care for our Mom and keep her as close to Dad as they had been for 67 years. We will send our prayers aloft to heaven with the spirit of our much loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend at a Memorial Service to be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Her legacy of common sense, adaptability, generosity and kindness will be with us forever. <iframe id="funeral_recording_player_512x460" src="http://webcast.funeralrecording.com/events/embed_viewer/11548" width="512" height="524" scrolling="no" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0"></iframe>
