Obituary of Gerald Frederick Dempsey

On Saturday, May 21, 2016, Gerald (Gerry) passed away in the evening hours at the Regina Pasqua Hospital, fifteen days following his 85th Birthday. The only son of Joseph and Emma Dempsey, he was predeceased by his father in 1989 and mother in 1997 and his beloved and cherished wife of 50 years, Erma (Chess) Dempsey in October 2013. Gerald is survived by his only sister Marjorie (Tom) Molyneux and numerous nieces and nephews from Chess’ family. Born in Regina, Gerry graduated from Campion College and gained employment with the Regina Leader Post, retiring in 1991 after 42 years. Upon retirement Gerry especially enjoyed golfing, having been a member of the Regina Golf Club for over 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years and volunteered many hours for the church. Those who knew Gerry well, knew that he was a true gentleman with a unique sense of humor. Life was not the same since he lost his beloved wife, Chess, and he finally has his wish to be reunited with her. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2020 Winnipeg Street, Regina, SK, on Friday May 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make a memorial donation in Gerry’s name to the Leader Post Christmas Cheer Fund or to the William Booth Special Care Home, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6. Special thanks to the staff of the Pasqua Palliative Care Unit and special family friend Bonnie for their care and assistance over the past few weeks and to the staff at Marion Revera for going out of their way to accommodate Gerry since Chess passed away.
