Stuart Reiley

Obituary of Stuart Brink Reiley

Stuart Brink Reiley of Regina, SK passed away at home on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 84 years of age. Stuart was predeceased by his parents Pearl and Sadie Reiley; brother Arthur; and Jeanne his loving wife of 57 years. Stuart is survived by his son Michael (Tamara) Reiley of Coldstream BC; daughter Jackie Reiley of Whitehorse, YK; sister Eleanor Thomas of the Peguis First Nation; and three very special people Lieutenant Remi Poirier, his wife Holly and their daughter Marielle. Stuart was born in 1931 at Hafford, SK. Growing up on the family farm, deciding that a farming life wasn't for him, Stuart moved to the city as a young adult and started working at a variety of jobs. Although Regina was home, each summer was spent back at the farm helping his brother with the farm operations. Stuart and Jeanne met in Regina and got married June 30, 1956. Regina remained their home. In 1960 Stuart and Jeanne decided that Victoria Avenue, was a nice place to live, so they moved into a beautiful old heritage home at 3022 Victoria Avenue. Fifteen wonderful years were spent there before they felt it was time for a change, but not too big of one, so everything was packed up and the family made the move one block west to the 3100 block Victoria Avenue, where Stuart and Jeanne lived for 40 more years. The move was fairly easy, as most things could be carried the single block that separated the two homes. It was during this time that Stuart decided to give university a try and so in his early thirties he became a student again and entered the University of Saskatchewan. By 1966, Stuart had earned a Bachelor of Arts and then a Bachelor of Education in 1969 and started on a new career as a teacher. Stuart spent the two decades teaching at numerous schools throughout Regina in both the elementary and high school systems. Stuart finished his teaching at Robert Usher, retiring in 1991. Stuart was very proud of his teaching career and liked nothing more than running into former students and hearing about their accomplishments in life. Never ones to sit on their laurels, retirement for both Stuart and Jeanne meant starting something new, and in this case it was becoming completely involved in the operation of the Victoria Care Home and helping with Habitat for Humanity. In addition to these two important services they both found time to participate with the Rotary Club, The Canadian Club, and the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan. Not feeling that was quite enough to fill their days, Stuart took up barbershop singing. Memorial Service will take place at the Westminster United Church, 3025 13th Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined, friends so wishing, my make donations to a charity of their choice.
