Hjordis MacCormack

Obituary of Hjordis Isabel MacCormack

HJORDIS ISABEL MACCORMACK Feb 16, 1926 – Sept 16, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hjordis (Jordy) MacCormack on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Left to cherish her memory is her loving son John (Lorene); grandson Robert (Robbie); along with her husband Alfred (Al) Knudsen. Jordy is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, Lorene’s family, Al’s family and many friends. Jordy was predeceased in 1969 by her husband, John’s father, Robert (Bob) MacCormack. She was also predeceased by all her brothers (Harold, Erling and Trygve Norheim) and sisters (Gudrun Denison and Solveig Anderson) and their spouses (Mildred, Julia, and Margaret Norheim, Earl Denison, and Leonard Anderson) as well as by one niece (Joyce Denison) and two nephews (David and Dale Norheim). Jordy was born on February 16, 1926, on the farm near White Bear, Saskatchewan as the youngest of the six children of Ole and Kari Norheim. Jordy’s early years were spent on the farm. She attended high school at Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon before entering nursing training at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina. This marked the beginning of a long and successful career as a Registered Nurse in a wide variety of positions throughout her work life. Jordy lived many years in Regina where she made many close friendships. In 1967 Jordy, Bob and John moved to Winnipeg where she spent four years before returning to Regina in 1971. In 1976, she married Al Knudsen. Al and Jordy enjoyed many years together and travelled extensively. In her later years, she and Al moved to Medicine Hat and more recently to Calgary in order to be close to her son John. Jordy was faced with the challenge of her first husband Bob’s death when John was only 12 years old. Although this was a difficult time, she provided a loving and supportive home for John and his friends and was always welcoming of any of her extended family who might need a place to live for a while or to stay overnight. She was the go to aunt for many of her nieces and nephews and was supportive and loving to her brothers, sisters, and their families. John and Jordy were a team for many years and as his mom’s health was failing John was with her every step of the way. Her death leaves a big hole in John’s heart. She will also be terribly missed by her husband Al as well as her many nieces, nephews and friends. While very sick in the last few weeks of her life, Jordy maintained a positive attitude and would often comment that it was the “end of another perfect day”. She cherished her family and friends and always appreciated news of their trials and triumphs. Her approach to life was summed up when she told us “Be kind to everyone and they will be kind to you.” She was a very special person with a huge heart. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, September 30, 2016 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK.
