Obituary of Marlene Eistetter

MARLENE “MARNIE” EISTETTER MARCH 18, 1934 – OCTOBER 3, 2016 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nana, and great-grandma. Marnie passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, October 3, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born in Moose Jaw, SK and moved to Regina with her family as a young girl, attending Herchmer School, then Scott Collegiate. Marnie studied piano and became an accomplished pianist, achieving the Royal Conservatory Grade X level of music. On July 1, 1954, she married Wilf and together they raised four daughters and a son. Marnie juggled the demands of a young family with her love of music by teaching piano lessons to many children over the years. Once her children had grown, Mom returned to the work force. She worked as a teacher’s assistant and in the library at several schools while continuing to teach piano lessons part time. Mom was a dedicated volunteer. She had a soft spot for those in need and those that could not do for themselves, donating countless hours to a variety of charities and non-profit organizations. Marnie’s volunteer focus became synchronized swimming. When her daughters took up the sport, she became a judge, coach, chief scorer, and mentor. Marnie continued to devote much time and effort to the sport and served as President of Synchro Sask. She could often be seen poolside during meets, cheering on each and every swimmer. She received many awards for volunteerism including the Synchro Canada Lifetime Achievement Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. She was inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame and the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. The family cottage at Sunset Cove had a special place in Mom’s heart. Her fondest memories were of many summers spent there. It was her happy place! Mom reserved the biggest part of her heart for her family. Nothing made her happier than being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a special relationship with each one of us, whether it was cheering from the stands, taking us to a movie, playing games or chatting on the phone. Her love and support knew no bounds. Marnie was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Ruth Cooper; and her husband Wilf. She is survived by her four daughters, Dawn (Bill) Elliott, Darcee Robb, Tracy (Mike) Mamona, and Jami (Adam) Berg; and by her son Jim (Jodi). Marnie is also survived by eight grandchildren, Meghan (Andre), Tom (Andrea), Jon, Kate (JJ), Michelle, Sara, Cooper, and Ivy; and four great-grandchildren, Deegan, Grace, Claire, and Hannah. The family would like to thank the medical staff on 4D and ICU at the Pasqua Hospital for the expert care and compassion shown to Mom. A huge thank you also to Dr. J. Morris for his years of caring for Mom. He always knew just what to say and she trusted his advice. Donations in memory of Marnie may be made to Synchro Saskatchewan, 1860 Lorne Street, Regina, SK S4P 2L7 or the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143 Stn. Main, Regina, SK S4P 3G7.
