My sincere condolences to my two cousins Darwin and Jeff and their families for their loss.
My memories of uncle Alfred (Sledgehammer) go back to days as a teenager framing houses, forming concrete and drinking cold beer. Alfie could do all 3 well. He loved using the persuader(sledge) to coax walls into place.
Alfie was a true mentor to me teaching me most of my carpentry skills probably if not for him I would not have become a journeyperson and have the business success I have had.
Uncle Alfred had a great sense of humour and a sarcastic wit that resonated with me and made laugh as hard as any professional comedian.
I can truly say my life was better having my uncle Alfred in it and when my mind wanders back to the good old days my memories will be happy ones of my time spent with him.
Alfred Gettle had flaws just like all of us but one he did not have was his true sense of love for his family and care for their wellbeing.
I hope both of you can find comfort in the fact that father do not have to suffer before he passed and that he is in a better place getting to reunite with aunty Leona, Blaine Angela and Ron.
