Obituary of Brenda Ruth Machin

                                                       January 5, 1954 – June 9, 2017

Our lives were blessed by Brenda’s caring nature, devotion to family, and sense of humour. She died peacefully on June 9. Brenda was predeceased by her much-loved parents, Howard and Ruth.  She is survived by her siblings, Ralph Machin (Myrna), Diane Nagel (Ron), and Morley Machin (Jean).  Brenda will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Jeff, Barb, Kevin, Laura, and Ryan; great-niece Natasha; great-nephew Michael and his son Mason; as well as many other family and close friends. Raised near Pilot Butte, SK, Brenda enjoyed a very happy childhood with her siblings. After graduating from Luther High School, she convocated with her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. Brenda’s career involved a variety of jobs, all of which were related to her interests in agriculture and research. Her commitment to these issues led her to become involved with the professional association of agrologists, first at the provincial and then at the national level. Brenda was elected president of the Agriculture Institute of Canada, the first female to hold the position.

Family and friends valued Brenda’s warmth and outgoing personality.  She had a special talent for reaching out to others. For many years, Brenda was active at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, where people looked for her fudge and angel food cakes at bake sale time. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers most gratefully declined. For those so wishing, donations to honour Brenda’s memory may be made to the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7, www.reginahumanesociety.ca or the Alzheimer Society of Canada, 20 Eglinton Avenue West, 16th Floor, Toronto, ON, M4R 1K8, www.alzheimer.ca.
