Obituary of James "Jim" Fogarty
-And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand-
James (Jim) Fogarty died peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, hand-in-hand, in Regina, Saskatchewan on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the age of 89 years. He was born on May 21, 1928 in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, Ireland and immigrated to Canada (settling in Regina) in 1957. Jim is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Mary Anne; sons, Michael (Alison), Kevin (Sue), and Timothy (Mary Lou); daughter Bernadette (Larry); brother Jack; sisters, Nell and Mary. His memory will live on in each of his seven grandchildren, Patrick (Corrie), Erin, Thomas (Kim), Colin, Danny, Ryan, and Molly (Zach); two great-grandsons, Keegan and Declan, each of whom were reminded of his great love for them in his final days; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends in Ireland, England, United States, and Canada. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Ellen; brothers, Mick, Ted, Paddy and Lant; and sisters, Kathleen and Joan. Jim was an active member of Little Flower Parish, Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, Special Olympics, and of his community as a whole. He was a life-long volunteer with an unprecedented commitment to serving others and lived each day with a contagious sense of grace and gratitude towards every person and every situation he encountered. Jim was an accomplished cook, had a definite green thumb, was a devoted family man, and had the kindest, most gentle soul. He was a man of his faith and his word, a friend to all, and will be missed beyond any measure by all who were blessed to know him. Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower Parish, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 2160 Broad Street, Regina, SK, S4P 1Y5 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, Unit 26-1738 Quebec Street, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9.
