My long time neighbor Kevin. Kevin and I grew up together on 2 block Smith for almost 19 years. We had many fun and goofy times together, walking 7 blocks to St. Michaels School every day. His Dad George, got me a job at Dominion Bridge, which I was always grateful for. Although Kevin and I did not stay close friends after those early years, there was always a bond. Over time , Kevin would call me at times to talk about our early years and how much he enjoyed them. He would always tell me how much he enjoyed my family , even though we were known as the loud family on our block! He always reminded me about how I would make him laugh while walking those 7 blocks to school ,on those cold mornings, with a dirty song or two, I would make up, to keep our minds off the cold!! We would spend endless hours playing hockey at Highland Park or shinny in front of our house. I can remember when they put street lights on our street. Night shinny, how cool was that! His Mom, driving us to the old Craig golf course for golf. I hated that Kevin was so much better than me at golf! Carrying our clubs on our back and driving our Mustang bikes to Tor Hill for golf fighting off locust grasshoppers on the way . Gross!! It was sure a different time, but so much fun. Having a good friend as your neighbor was the best, sleepouts in the backyard, kick the can in the backlanes and whatever else our imaginations could come up with. it was as they say, the best of times! I still have friends that I had 50 years ago. You can leave the north end, but the north end never leaves you!! I know that Kevin had his struggles over the years, and I hope and pray that he is at peace. Take care my friend, until we meet again. Rest in Peace Kevin. Your neighbor Pete.
