Obituary of Kevin Gerald Sliz
AUGUST 26, 1968 – MAY 13, 2018
On Sunday, May 13, 2018, at approximately 8:00 pm, Kevin left this world surrounded by the love of his family for a more beautiful, welcoming place. During his short time on earth, Kevin impacted many lives. Despite the difficult challenges he faced as a result of a brain injury at the age of 13, he persevered through life making the most of the hand he was dealt. Kevin was known for his joke-telling and could break the ice with anyone with his good humour. He loved the Roughriders, animals, karaoke, and looked forward to his annual trips to Madge Lake with his Mom and Dad, usually around his birthday in August. Kevin was just shy of his 50th birthday. He will be deeply missed. Thank you to everyone who showed kindness or friendship to Kevin over the years. It meant everything to him. Kevin leaves behind to mourn his passing his two sisters, Cindy (Jeff) and Daylene; and his Mom and Dad, Joanne and Gerald. They were his biggest champions, the people who stood by him, and cared for him his entire life, and who will grieve his passing the most. They were the first ones to welcome him into the world and were the last ones to say goodbye. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Aside from his gift of humour, Kevin donated some of his organs as a beautiful, selfless gift to others. The family would like to thank the EMS responders who performed lifesaving measures on Kevin; the doctors and nurses at the Regina General Hospital for their kindness and compassion, and for the wonderful care they provided to Kevin in his last day with us, in particular, Dr. Llewelyn-Williams; to Ryan, our organ donor facilitator, and to Rev. Howard Ulmer who provided Kevin with comforting words of prayer, as well as support to the family. The family will be holding a private graveside service for Kevin in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Kevin’s name to Brain Injury Canada, 440 Laurier Avenue, West Suite 200, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 7X6, to the Regina Humane Society, Box 3142, Regina SK, S4P 3G7 or a charity of your choice. He would be honoured.
