Obituary of Helen Ileana Nenson

Helen passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Tumwater, Washington.  She was the 11th child of 12 in the Nenson family. Helen was born on February 7, 1937, near the community of Driftwood, in northern Ontario. The family moved to Regina in 1939, where she attended Benson School before going on to Balfour Technical Collegiate. In Helen’s senior year at Balfour, she became the student body president and was awarded a scholarship for leadership. Several teachers encouraged her to further her education by going to college so she applied and was accepted at the University of Arizona in Tucson. After completing her education, Helen moved to California, where she taught physical education at various schools throughout her career before finally retiring in 1988. After Helen’s retirement, she eventually moved to Tumwater in the state of Washington, where she resided until her death. She was also gifted artistically. Besides Helen’s drawings and illustrations, she wrote and co-wrote many musical pieces to celebrate her love of God. Her music and poetry were put to CD and, with contributions from her friends, she was able to sell several copies. Helen is survived by her brother, Alec; sister Virginia Murray (Bill); sister-in-law Lynn Nenson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 2005 Edgar Street, Regina, SK on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
