My sincerest condolences to Claire and your family. Don and Claire are my Godparents and I just received an email from Claire telling me on Don’s passing. Even though we have been separated by many miles, we were still connected. I enjoyed my conversations with Don, having spoken for the last time in April when all he wanted to know was how I and my family were all doing. He never wanted to talk about himself though he certainly was very proud of all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and filed me with news of all of them. His love for Claire was strong and endearing, realishing in their long marriage. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you Claire as well as the rest of the family. Rest In Peace Don!

It has taken me some time to collect my thoughts after hearing about Don's passing.
The news was like a punch to the gut, he was like a second father to me after my dad died in 1959. We kept in constant touch, even taking a Halifax trip together when he was President of the United Way of Regina and I worked as the Agency Director. We had a great time eating hot clam chowder and drinking cold beer on the dock next to the Bluenose. A time I will not soon forget and still look at the pictures of us watching vats of lobster being prepared for all the conference participants.
He mentored my son, even arranging for him to work at Kramer during High School which taught him the value of education and dedication. Don graciously lent us his second cabin at B-say-tah (number 70) as long as we cut the grass and pulled some weeds. Those were wonderful weekends with huge memories. We golfed together, had drinks together, he took my mother out on a see-doo and boat, even when she was afraid of the water, he made it all ok for her.
I could go on and write a book about what he has meant to me, my family and others in this city, but you might get bored.
Suffice it to say, I have never met a more generous, kind, caring, personable human being in my life, and I will be forever grateful for all he has done for me personally.
I will miss him dearly, and regret we never got to have lunch together after we decided thats what we should do two weeks before he passed. We both wanted that to happen but we could never come up with a date or time. That saddens me.
Goodbye my friend, we will have lunch again someday.

I was very sorry and surprised to hear of Don's passing. I have always enjoyed seeing Don and Claire over the years, at so many of the gallery events - and only just recently was sitting at lunch with him during the Celebration of Giving lunch at the Gallery. We all had a really good time and he seemed to be in good spirits.
My sincere condolences to his family.

My deepest sympathy to all of you.
Don will be missed -- as a man who made contributions to the arts, faith traditions, this city and the country -- and he will be missed for his genuine kindness for all he met, whatever their status.
He was, indeed, "... a man ... all in all ... ."

Dear Claire,
We go back a long way with our second Saskatchewan family, the Kramers. It was1942 when Bob jr. used to spend summers with us at Mallard Cove. And, then it was Don who barbequed our very last meal in your wonderful cottage as we left the beautiful Qu Appelle Valley for our new home here on the Island. We will never forget your kindness and friendship. You have been so faithful in keeping us up-to-date in the lives of the Kramers. We will miss the sound of Don's voice on the other end of the phone. Bless you and the rest of the Kramer family. Take care, our love, Anna and Joe. joanna2bc@shaw.ca
