Marguerite Schwann

Obituary of Marguerite "Phyllis" Schwann

In the early morning of Thursday, September 27, 2018, Dr. Paul Schwann made his final rounds at the Regina General Hospital to accompany his loving wife, Phyl, into Heaven. We are very grateful that she departed this world peacefully in her sleep. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Paul; her mom and dad, Gertrude and Albert Sears; sister Flo; and grandsons, Paul Brace and Christopher Hodgins.  She is survived by her loving daughters Dr. Paula Schwann (Dave Nielsen) and their sons Paul and Mark; Pam Schwann (Russ Hodgins) and their children Kellen and Lauren; and Lisa Schwann and her son Mike; special sons Kent Brace (Laurel) and their son Tim; Gerry Inglis (Erin) and their children Aidan, Taylor, Cale and Sierra; her special “fourth daughter” Marie-Therese Bayda; special nephew Ian Brace; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also leaves a large network of extended family and friends which is a tribute to her warm and engaging personality, and her outgoing congenial nature. Mom was born in Kelliher. After her father’s passing she moved with her mother to Regina to attend Sacred Heart Elementary School and Central High School. Her first job was at the Sask. Wheat Pool, and she subsequently ventured into banking and real estate sales, followed by many enjoyable years with SGI customer service. She especially loved spending time at the cottage on Pasqua Lake with her family and had a special place in her heart for her many dogs. Mom was involved in many charitable organizations. Especially dear to her heart was  Regina High School Football and the CKRM Good Neighbor Fund. She volunteered with the CWL, Wascana Kiwanis, MS Society, QCM, and Dr. Paul Schwann Centre Sweetheart Run.  She was very proud to be recognized as the Wascana Kiwanis’ Mother of the Year in 1989. Phyl holds the distinction of being the first female director of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club (and a first for the CFL). Mom was a devoted fan and season ticket holder for 60 years.  Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2104 Garnet Street, Regina, SK on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Archbishop Emeritus Jim Weisgerber officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.  Mom’s football boys, past and present, are invited to attend the service, wearing their team jerseys. Flowers graciously declined. Donations to Mom’s favorite charities would be deeply appreciated, including the Regina Humane Society, The Canadian Cancer Society, MS Society and the Dr. Paul Schwann Centre.
