Trav Gibson

Obituary of Trav Lauris Gibson

GIBSON, Trav Lauris

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Trav, a beloved dad, husband, brother, uncle, and newly grandpa. Trav passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the young age of 56 years. Born in Regina, SK, and a member of the White Bear First Nations, Trav made Regina home and grew up a respectable athlete, community member and fire fighter with the Regina Fire Department since April 11, 1994.

He was predeceased by his hardworking grandparents, Bill and Rosabelle Standingready and Lloyd and Muriel Gibson. Trav will be remembered by both parents, Daryl and Phyllis Gibson; wife and partner of 29 years, Connie Gibson; brothers, Dean and Lance; sisters, Vanessa (Curt) and Romy (Shawn); son Julien (Jessica); daughter Hayley (Linden); newly born grandson Koen; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dad graduated from Balfour Collegiate and if you knew him, you’d know how much he loved and valued sports. He played senior fastball at Rambler Park, winning many awards for his athleticism. Dad’s hockey career included the Regina Pat Blues (’79-’80), the WHL (’80-’82) playing for the New Westminster Bruins and Kamloops Junior Oilers, and the University of Regina Cougars (’85-’86). He then travelled to the European Non-Elite League, playing for Schongau, Germany, and lastly Anchorage, Alaska, but never truly hanging up the skates. You could always find him on Christmas day starting up a game on the outdoor rink at Imperial School.

We remember dad as always living life to the fullest and indulging on all things great. On his days off he’d be playing golf, spending time with his children, or taking fishing trips to northern Saskatchewan. Dad was a hardworking man with his famous saying “Gibson’s don’t quit”. During Trav’s final years, he faced mental and physical challenges with spinocerebellar ataxia. He fought privately and silently as the prideful man he was. Trav passed down what he was most proud of to his children: his work ethic, athleticism, and respectability.

We welcome all Trav’s friends and those who crossed his path to his funeral service that will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a  celebration of Trav’s life and feast at the Gathering Place, 4001 3rd Avenue N, Regina, SK at 3:00 p.m.

All donations from the celebration of Trav’s life will be donated to the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Association Burn Fund, a local non-profit organization to aid the families of burn patients with treatment, care, and rehabilitations.
