Obituary of Cindy Lorraine Johnson
In the presence of family, Cindy passed away peacefully in Regina General Hospital as a result of complications from a brain tumor. She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Jean Pope and her brother Doug. Cindy is survived by her loving husband Doug; her sister-in-law Kathy Johnson; her brother-in-law Jim Johnson, his wife Brenda and their daughter Kaleigh, and their son Logan, his wife Samantha and their daughter Scarlett; as well as numerous cousins, in-laws and friends.
Cindy was born in Regina and attended Massey School and Campbell Collegiate. She played flute for several years with the Regina Lions Junior Band, travelling with them to much of North America and Europe. She spent over thirty years as a corporate travel agent in Regina, working with P. Lawson Travel, Carlson Wagonlit and Marlin Travel. Her clients were constantly commenting on her professionalism and attention to detail. After retirement from the travel business, she worked at the family-owned First Tee Indoor Golf Centre, where she met many new friends and happy customers.
Cindy enjoyed gardening, reading, making stained glass table tops, riding her bicycle Helen, sampling beer and wine, watching Downtown Abbey and Grace and Frankie, playing with her cats Angus and Peanut and travelling. She and Doug covered most of the world in their travels. She especially enjoyed visits to Europe, New Zealand and Africa with family and friends.
Cindy was a kind, generous and loving person. Her thoughtfulness and consideration for others will long be remembered. As a parting kindness, Cindy donated her corneas so that others would have the opportunity to regain their sight.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held this spring at a location and date to be announced. Flowers are gratefully declined – the cats will eat them. If you wish, donations in Cindy’s memory may be made to Regina Cat Rescue, Regina Humane Society or a charity of choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. Buwembo, Dr. Laursen, Dr. Betcher and all of the nurses, physicians and staff at Regina General Hospital Surgical ICU and units 5A and 3E for their professional and compassionate care of Cindy.
“I am standing on the seashore. A ship spreads her white sails to the morning sun and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand watching her until at last she fades on the horizon. Someone at my side says “She is gone.” Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all. Just at that moment, there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices are ready to take up the glad shout “Here she comes!”
