ARSCOTT, H. Robert “Bob”

 

H. Robert (Bob) Arscott passed away peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Alice Arscott of Saskatoon; and his siblings, Audrey, Hugh, Bert; and brother-in-law, Peter Suhr.  Bob is survived by his beloved and loving wife Gesa; and their children, Susan, Ray (Michele), Roberta (Mark), and Jean (Bryan); and six grandchildren, Sarah, Nolan, Chantal, Kiki, Adam, and Hugo; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

The twins, Bob and Bert, were born on June 13, 1928 in Saskatoon. They attended Bedford Road Collegiate. Bob obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the U of S in 1949 and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1956. He founded his own CA practice in Regina in 1962. The firm became Arscott and Partners, with offices in Regina and Saskatoon. In 2000, the company amalgamated with two local firms to form Virtus Group. Bob retired from practice in 2013.

 

From 1973 until 2013, Bob was the Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Law Foundation of Saskatchewan. Upon retirement, an Endowment Chair was named in his honour at the U of S College of Law, to be known as “The H. Robert Arscott Law Foundation of Saskatchewan Chair.”

 

Bob was President of the Saskatchewan Institute of Chartered Accountants from 1984-1985 and he was honoured to be elected a Fellow (FCA) by the Institute and  to receive their Distinguished Service Award for his work in the community.

 

Bob was generous with his time and assisted many charitable and community groups in Regina including the Queen City Kinsmen Club, K40, and the Regina Rotary Club. Bob was an active member of the Regina Family YMCA for 60 years and served for 23 years on the Board of Directors, including three years as President. Bob received the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada for his work for the YMCA. A natural athlete, Bob participated in basketball, tennis, skiing, and fishing; in later years, he was an active member of the Wascana Golf and Country Club. Bob spent 8 years as a director and 60 years as a season ticket holder of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  For many years, Bob and family have enjoyed their cottage at Sask. Beach. Bob was a member of several choirs including the Regina Philharmonic Chorus, several Sask. Opera productions, and for the last 30 years, he was a member of the St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral Choir. Bob passed on his love of music and sports to his children and grandchildren.

 

Bob’s family is very grateful to Dr. K. Pervaiz and for the excellent support Bob received from the Regina Palliative Care Services, especially from the Home Health Aides, and the staff at Wascana Grace Hospice.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers and cards, the family would appreciate donations in Bob’s name to the Regina Family YMCA, 2400 13th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 0V9, or to St. Paul’s Cathedral Building in Faith Fund, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R2.
