Lionel Forrester

Obituary of Lionel Ralph Forrester

Lionel Ralph Forrester passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, March,4, 2019 at age 78 years.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Matilda; daughter Jill (Roger Petry), their sons Jonathan and Christopher; son Glen (Reagan Haus) and her son Trystan; his brothers Alan and John (Darlene); sisters Ethel (Jim) and Maggy (Earne); cousins from his adoptive home, Barb (Bryan) and Claire; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Ralph Forrester and Gladys Shorthouse at an early age and raised by his stepmother Alvina and his uncle and aunt, George and Florence Shorthouse. Lionel was born in Regina and returned in 1966 to begin a 33-year career as a pioneering computer programmer analyst with SaskPower. He loved branding and roundup at the Bowie ranch, long road trips and the prairie sky and landscape, but was equally at home in BC where he spent much of his childhood. He remained close to all his relatives, making trips to see them yearly. Nothing brought Lionel more joy than a great jazz song, a new scientific discovery, a classic car, a family reunion, a project to work on or having someone to help. He was a passionate and creative builder, mechanic and handyman who helped purchase, build, repair and upgrade many houses, cottages and vehicles. He changed many lives through his generosity, support and encouragement.  Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 3510 Queen Street, Regina, SK, on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make memorial donations in Lionel’s name to the Dr. Paul Schwann Centre, 3737 Wascana Parkway, Regina, SK, S4S 0A2.
