August 14, 1950 – March 28, 2019
Garry Zatylny of Dysart, SK, died on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the age of 68 years, after a struggle with ALS. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Vera Zatylny; brothers, David, Vern and Ted; and father-in-law John Petrar.
Garry is remembered by Pat, his beloved wife of 47 years; daughters and their husbands, Nikki and Ryan Czemeres, Amy and Michael Bott and Becky and Dean Schick; cherished grandchildren, Tara, Mitchell and Karlee Czemeres, Emily and Katelynn Bott and Kendel and Jase Schick. He is also survived by siblings, Jerry and Joanne Zatylny, Joe and Tena Zatylny, Donna and Leonard Moroz; mother-in-law Gladys Petrar; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
Garry was the middle child and fourth boy born to a family of six sons and one daughter. The Zatylny’s lived in Punnichy until 1957 when they moved to Dysart, where Garry lived until his death. Garry joined the Canadian Air Force in 1969, where he trained as an aircraft metal technician, being stationed in Camps Cornwallis, Trenton and Borden. In 1971, he returned to Dysart and began working at Dysart Sales and Service. Garry worked there until 2006, when he traded his Case red for John Deere green and began working for Maple Farm Equipment until his illness prevented him from working any longer.
Garry married his high school sweetheart, Pat Petrar, in 1971 and they raised three daughters. He was an active volunteer, as a 4-H leader, a firefighter, the local rink and the Dysart Museum. Garry was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lipton/Dysart Legion. He was active in the St. John the Baptist Church, having roles on Parish Council, grounds and cemetery maintenance and at the Deanery level. If Garry was around, the floors were sure to be washed before he left the building. He was a proud Dysart Viper hockey player, enjoying the wings, beverages and socializing as much as the game.
