Obituary of Edna Elizabeth McPherson
APRIL 21, 1925 – APRIL 15, 2019
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Edna Elizabeth McPherson on April 15, 2019 at the age of 93 years, 6 days short of her 94th birthday. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Donald M McPherson; her parents, John and Marie Loreth; her brothers, Joseph, Charlie, Albert, and Victor; and her sisters, Mary, Ida, Bertha, and Lil. Edna will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Rod and Brent (Lenora Sturge); sisters, Helen in Calgary and Beatrice in Montreal; grandchildren, Ryan (Vhida) and Jennifer in Calgary, Kirsten in Guelph, Amanda (Jamie) in San Diego, and Cody in Seattle; Edna’s special friend, Lorne White; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edna was born and raised in Raymore, SK, to a loving family and grew up with 10 siblings. She attended post-secondary school in Regina, followed by employment at a bank, the government and the Regina Leader-Post Editorial Department. Family was Edna’s passion. She was very proud of her two sons. Edna and her late husband, Don, led an exciting life that involved family, business, football and politics. She continued to follow football and politics, especially current events, and always enjoyed a great conversation, or even a friendly debate! After Don’s passing, Edna kept herself busy with some travelling, volunteering at the MacKenzie Art Gallery and participating as a Singing Granny where she learned line dancing! Edna lived for periods of time in Calgary and Victoria, but Regina was always home. A prairie girl at heart, she was known for her warm western hospitality, welcoming all her visitors with a friendly smile and a twinkle in her eye. With exquisite taste and an eye for detail, Edna’s gracious manner made everyone around her feel special. Edna passed peacefully with her family at her side. Special thank you to Lenora Sturge for her care and compassion over the last few years. Thank you to the Lutheran Eden Care Home staff in Regina for the kindness and care they showed Edna. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Flowers and donations are appreciated but gratefully declined.
