Greta Poole

Obituary of Greta Charlotte Bennett Poole

On April 22, 2019 Greta passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in palliative care at the Pasqua hospital in Regina.  She was predeceased by her dear son Robert; her husband Bill; and her two older brothers, Jack and Sherman Lynch. Greta is survived by her daughter Lynn (Ray); her nieces Lenore (Bill) Jackson and Pat Bojczuk and Jane Cloutier (Claude); her nephew Mike (Val) Lynch; grand nieces and nephews and a great grand niece. Vivacious and attractive, Greta was known for her quick wit and ability to liven up any gathering.    Greta met Bill in Regina when he was a freshly minted member of the RCMP. Bill had applied for an overseas posting and after their marriage in April 1954 they set off for a seven year adventure living in Germany and Sweden where Lynn and Robbie were born. The family returned to Canada in 1961 and lived in Ottawa for the next forty years. While Greta was not an enthusiastic high school student she nonetheless went back to school as a mature student and obtained a BA from Carleton University and a Library Technicians diploma from Algonquin College. Greta enjoyed music particularly 1930’s and 40’s musicals. Her favorites were Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald and classical music especially piano. She played tennis well into her seventies with a group of ladies, a few of whom were older than she was. In 2001 Bill and Greta moved to Regina and felt they had come home having both been born and raised in Saskatchewan. They travelled a lot both in Canada and the world seeing China, the Amazon, Mexico City, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Egypt. In Regina Greta was a volunteer tutor at the Regina Public Library teaching English as a second language to new Canadians and probably providing commentary on the politics of the day.  Greta was a loving mother and devoted wife and made the home a warm and happy place for her family. Bill passed away in December 2015 and Greta missed him terribly. There will be a private interment at the RCMP Cemetery at Depot in Regina. Greta will be laid to rest beside Bill in the columbarium. Thank you to the staff at Marian Chateau Retirement Residence for being helpful and kind while Greta lived there and to the wonderful nurses at Pasqua Hospital palliative care.
