Obituary of Ina Pearl Scott

Ina Scott passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Saturday, May 11, 2019. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and wonderful friend.

Ina was born in Sceptre, in November 1920. A bright student, she proudly displayed her excellent Grade 1 report card for the rest of her life. Ina got into trouble with her parents a few years later when she started up her father’s car and went for a joy ride.

Ina went to Normal School in Moose Jaw and spent 10 years teaching in schools in rural Saskatchewan. While teaching in Yellow Grass, Ina met Jim Scott, who was back in town after serving with The RCAF in Europe during World War II.

Ina and Jim were married in 1949 and moved to Hamilton, ON, where Jim worked as an electrician at Dafasco for almost 40 years. In 1951, their only son Neil was born. Ina spent her time being a housewife, mother, and chauffer family around when they came to visit. Ina and Jim lived on Meadowvale Ave in Stoney Creek, for over 50 years.

Ina did not return to teaching in Ontario, but was busy tutoring her son Neil, who sometimes struggled in school. That maternal tutoring helped Neil be successful in university, as a newspaper reporter with the Leader-Post, and as a summer student at the Hamilton spectator.

Jim and Ina curled at Glendale and Mount Hope curling clubs in the winter and enjoyed many happy days at their summer cottage at Gooderham in the Haliburton region of Ontario.

Jim and Ina traveled extensively in their retirement years. Ina was a notorious back street driver, but she helped Jim find his way to where he was going.

Ina loved doing word puzzles and continued doing them almost to the end of her life.

Following the death of Jim in 2008, Ina moved from Stoney Creek to Regina to be closer to her son Neil and his family. She lived at Wintergreene Estates in south Regina, where she made many new friends with staff and residents. Ina was much loved, and will great fully be missed.

Ina is survived by her son Neil (Donna); grandchildren, Jimmy and Billy Scott; nieces and nephews, Jim (Cindy) Dunn and family, Brian (Vivian) Dunn and family, Patty Wilkie and family, Peggy (Jim) Altwasser and family, Marilee (Larry) Howlett and family, Gloria Shield and family, Lorie (Richard) Andreas and family, Connie (James) and family, (Dave) Tetlock and family; as well as other close friends in Ontario.

Ina is predeceased by her husband Jim Scott; parents, Albert and Elva Dickie; sister Alma (Reg) and (step-sister-in-law Irene) Dunn, brother Bob (Vi) Dickie; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Phyllis and Walter Simmons; and niece, Joanne Tetlock.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage House, Wintergreene Estates for their care during Ina’s stay there.
