Obituary of Marion Eleanor McCusker Chase

CHASE, Marion Eleanor McCusker

1927 – 2019

Surrounded by her family, Marion Eleanor McCusker Chase passed away peacefully in Regina General Hospital on the morning of Canada Day 2019. She was 91 years old. Born at the Regina Grey Nuns (Pasqua) Hospital in 1927, Marion was one of seven children of Thomas Addis McCusker and Ruth Omand McCusker. She was raised on a farm north of the city, and was educated in Regina and Winnipeg. Marion was predeceased by her parents; her spouse Malcolm Chase; her brothers William and Kevin; and her sisters Louise, Elizabeth, and Bernice.

Marion is survived by her sister Evelyn (Vancouver); her son Tom (Regina); her daughters Ele (Cave Creek, AZ), Susie (Guelph, ON), Cathie (Victoria, BC), and Maggie (Calgary), together with seven grandchildren (Patrick, Katelyn, Geoffrey, Dominique, Grayson, Lane, Jenna); and her stepchildren from her husband's first marriage, Malcolm (Kelowna, BC), Leslie (Falls Church, VA), and Murray (Regina), together with their spouses, children, and grandchildren.

Until age and infirmity slowed her, Marion was an avid golfer, supporter of the arts, and traveller, visiting numerous countries including Japan, Israel, Singapore, Chile, India, France, and Italy. She especially loved music, and for years sang in the choir of Holy Rosary Cathedral, where she enjoyed many friendships with choir members. Marion also served many years in the Regina Symphony Women's Association, and was a member of 600 Wing of the Air Force Association of Canada.

At Marion's wish, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place, and a family gathering in her memory will be held later this summer. The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses in 5A at the General for their care in her final days, her physician of many years, Dr. Stewart McMillan, as well as the caring staff and residents of Marian Chateau, where she lived. The family gratefully declines flowers, asking instead that Marion's friends and acquaintances make a donation to a charity of their choice.
