Obituary of Janet Cheung Kee Lamb

On the morning of July 31, 2019, satisfied with her final words of love and wisdom, our beloved Mom left this world to be with our Dad. Janet Lamb leaves to carry on her and Dad’s legacy their five children: Joanne and Murray, Pam and Larry, Derrick and Tomoko, Belinda and Jeff, and Sam and Wendy; their 15 grandchildren, Melanie, Jodi and Marcus, Neal and Ashley, Amanda and Ryan, Todd, David and Miranda, Nathan, Sydney, Sean and Jessica, Elisa and Matt, Kristen, Kyle, Maya, Brandon and Jordan; and their six great-grandchildren, Ben, Leo, Elias, Kade, Nash and Audrey.

Born in Hong Kong, Mom spent much of her childhood there, as well as several places throughout China. She has wonderful memories of her parents and getting into mischief with her seven siblings. After learning to drive at the tender age of 12, one of her brothers even let her cruise around town in his sportscar! For those who knew her, that explains why she had no qualms driving a vintage Porsche well into her 80’s.

Mom attended Maryknoll Convent School in Hong Kong and St. Mary’s Academy and College in Winnipeg where she made lifelong friends. While in Winnipeg, mom found her Faith and fell for the love of her life, our Dad. Together, they built a life filled with friends, family and food, first in Winnipeg, then Calgary, back to Winnipeg and finally, for 54 years, in Regina.

Dad called Mom a social butterfly. She made connections with everyone she met. For a time, Mom shared her love of food by teaching cooking classes at night. Even decades later, her students still made a point of telling her how much they enjoyed those laughter-filled evenings. One of her favourite places to spend time was the Lakeshore Tennis Club, where Mom was recently acknowledged for her 50-year club membership. As recently as this spring, Mom could be seen with a big smile on her face, racquet in hand, on the court… ever the competitor.

Mom’s biggest joy was our family. She poured her heart and soul into each and every one of us, guiding us as individuals woven together by deeply rooted and shared values. While we are happy our parents are together now, our hearts are broken with this huge loss. Ultimately, we are incredibly grateful to have had the time to feel so much of Mom’s love and to show her ours in return.

“Mom, we promise to honor your deepest wish – for us to stay connected and love, love, love.”

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross R.C.
