It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Herbert “Herb” Martin. He was predeceased by his parents, Stan and Gwen Martin and sister Beatrice Croshaw. Herb is survived by his sister Muriel (Gilbert) Renner; brother Tony (Lorna) Martin; brother-in-law Cliff Croshaw; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He retired from the Sask. Water Corp. after many years of service and took up full time farming. Farming was a passion of Herb’s and he liked to diversify his crops. He was an active member of Brora United Church and Lumsden United Church. Herb loved music and sang in several choirs. His favourite position at the fall supper was carving beef so he could check out the pies. Herb was a proud member of the Lumsden and District Lions and was an active participant in their numerous activities and fundraisers. He enjoyed working the late shift at cabarets so he could socialize and people watch. Herb loved wildlife and nature, cattle, horses, and dogs. He enjoyed playing softball and was surprisingly fast around the bases in his younger years. Herb loved spending time with family and friends, and friends and family loved spending time with him. Everyone enjoyed his company and his stories. Herb always had a ready answer, even if he appeared to be sleeping.
