Joan Stricker

Obituary of Joan Marie Stricker

 Joan Marie Stricker

(Nee Herauf)

September 4, 1962 – September 22, 2019

With deep sadness and hope in the promises of God’s eternal love our family acknowledges Joan’s tragic death.  Joan was predeceased by her father Don Herauf, father-in-law Art Stricker, brother-in-law Cyril Fahlman, sister-in-law Mindy Herauf, nephews Todd Herauf and Stefan Jamont. She is survived by her husband Kevin; son Jonathan; mother Doris Herauf; mother-in-law Marguerite Stricker; sisters Caroline Fahlman, Linda Zaba (Darrell), Lucille Calderone (Tony), Mary Blezard (Mark), Donna Staudt (Murray Bruce), and Rhonda Philipenko (Ray); brothers Charles Herauf (Carmen Firlotte), and Stephen Herauf (Janine); sisters-in-law Michelle Stricker (Greg) and Leanne Stricker (Sharky); as well as 23 nieces and nephews.  Joan lived her life fully while living and struggling with mental illness.  She brought much joy into the lives of her friends and family.  Joan and her siblings had a humble prairie upbringing on the farm and Joan was proud of that.  She loved the outdoors: loved kayaking and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.  Joan was a sportswoman who played softball, broomball and of course curling.  An accomplished curler, Joan cherished the lifelong friendships built across her entire curling career.  She curled competitively for more than 10 years and won 5 provincial championships with her teammates. Among Joan’s best qualities were her love of family, her kindness and her generosity.  These were on full display in her active volunteer commitments especially through the relationships she formed with people in Regina’s newcomer community.  But…Joan was not perfect: she bet without paying, was always late and was a terrible cook who loved good food and drink! The family would like to extend sincere thanks for the care and support Joan received from Dr. Kuman and the other medical professionals who supported her.  We would also like to thank the Regina City Police Service, the White Butte RCMP, the staff from the Coroner’s Office and all the first responders who assisted in the search for Joan when she went missing. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Queensbury Convention Centre, 1700 Elphinstone Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. The family gratefully declines flowers.  Donations may be made in memory of Joan to The Caring Place, 2146 Robinson St, Regina, SK S4T 2P7.

Joan was a woman of the prairies, a prairie rose, who grew up on the family farm.

She will return to a small prairie cemetery as her final place of rest.

The only blessing in this situation is that she does not hurt anymore.
