Dr. David Ahmed

Obituary of Dr. David Shafiq Ahmed

David died peacefully at home, in the company of his loving wife and close friends. He was born in Murree, Pakistan on July 5, 1937 and moved to England at a young age to study medicine at Liverpool University. This is where he met his wife, Violet, a student at Liverpool College of Art. They married in 1962 when they both graduated. David practiced surgery in Liverpool before they moved to Regina, where he worked at Pasqua Hospital until his retirement. Throughout his life David enjoyed playing squash and flying and he made many good friends at Regina Flying Club. He also taught flying for several years. David and Vi enjoyed travelling and visited many interesting places. Over the years David spent much of his time in medical leadership roles. He was particularly proud of his contributions to the council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons culminating in his role as College President. In his early years, David was deeply involved in the internship program at Pasqua Hospital and finally was appointed the role of Vice-President of Medical services for the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region. David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Violet; his brother Roger (wife Gillian); brother-in-law Michael (wife Linda); sisters-in-law, Mary (Vinny) and Renee; as well as many loving nephews and nieces, all in England. Violet is extremely grateful for the excellent care provided by the Home Care staff, especially Scott and Krishna. At David’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
