Growing up in Vancouver as the oldest of the 4 children of Helen (Babe) Kenward, I have come to realize my mothers upbringing quite likely had a great deal more structure than ours. Many summers would start with the announcement of which dates Gramma Kidd and Auntie Buck would arrive. There was a flurry of tidying, scrubbing, mostly of children, and the attempt at some military precision to put order in the relative chaos in which we lived. As children I think it was fair to say we were slightly terrified of Gramma Kidd, with her then still long red braid. Auntie Buck though checked all the boxes of being a “cool” aunt. Blonde, athletic and of course the Volkswagon Beetles helped cement that image greatly. My mother so welcomed the reconnection with her own mum and sister and the easy banter quickly found that prairie slightly wicked sense of humour. In later years my husband Robert and I enjoyed our annual Victoria getaway with many happy hours spent in company with Elizabeth and Larry. Conversations and long walks yielded surprising stories of the richness and diversity of their lives. A reminder yet again of the value of time spent with family.
Fondly remembered.

My condolences to the family. I was Helen's immediate neighbour on 19th Avenue for a few years, and got to know her and Larry, and their dog, during their frequent visits. Elizabeth's devotion to her mother was evident in outings together for symphony concerts, church, and preparation for Helen's annual summer time trips to the cottage. After I moved to Quebec, Larry was a faithful correspondent in his meticulous and beautiful handwriting, exchanging annual greetings and family news. It was a pleasure to know her. I am forever grateful to the Kidd sisters for the token gift of one of Helen's tea cups which I cherish. Helen was such an impressive person, and seemingly held in high regard by her children and descendants whom I was lucky enough to meet.
In sympathy,
Catherine Mitchell
