Obituary of Elizabeth McLaren Kitson
Elizabeth McLaren Kitson (nee Kidd) passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at the age of 91. She was hospitalized after a fall in early January, following a year-long battle with cancer. Elizabeth was born February. 20, 1928 in Weyburn, SK, the youngest of the five children of William and Helen Kidd, who moved to Regina in 1936. The Kidds were a musical, artistic and sporting family, and Elizabeth -- nicknamed Buckwheat because of her golden blonde hair -- was no exception. She competed in badminton, tennis, rowing, golf, skating and curling, winning many awards and trophies along the way. She was a long-time member of the Wascana Winter Club, Regina Boat Club and Lakeshore Tennis Club. Like the rest of the Kidd family, she loved music, playing piano and singing in the First Presbyterian Church choir and Regina Philharmonic Chorus. She also enjoyed listening to music, attending Regina Symphony Orchestra concerts for more than 60 years. She and her husband of 43 years, Larry Kitson, loved to travel and visited Europe on many occasions. They also enjoyed relaxing at their cottage at White Bear Lake in southeast Saskatchewan. They both loved dogs, especially their terriers: Shaughnessy, Kintyre and Bradie. She loved watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders and other Canadian sports teams, especially the Blue Jays and the Raptors. Prior to her marriage in 1968, she was employed as a stenographer and secretary for about 20 years, working for a number of firms, including SaskTel. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry, in 2011; her sisters, Mary Johnstone, Jean Clements and Helen (Babe) Kenward; and brother, Garry (Bud) Kidd. Elizabeth was the last surviving member of her family. While she had no children, she treated her and Larry’s nieces and nephews and their families as her own and corresponded regularly with a long list of family and friends. Elizabeth's family would like to thank the staff at Wintergreene Estates for all their care over the last few years and, more recently, the staff at the Pasqua Hospital. Funeral Service and reception will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina SK, on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Regina Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeth's name, to the First Presbyterian Church, Regina Humane Society and Canadian Cancer Society.
