With deep sadness, the family of Margaret Jacobs announces the passing on Sunday, May 10, 2020 of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was predeceased by her parents William and Elsie Messer; her sister Lois Secord; and great-granddaughter Juliet. Margaret is survived by her daughter Judy (Cecil) Van De Sype; her sons, Brent (Thea) Jacobs and Brad Jacobs; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessa (Brett), Shandi, Aaron (Tze Ying); and one great- granddaughter Brylee.

Margaret was born in the Northern Saskatchewan community of Loon Lake. Shortly before Margaret started school, the family returned to the Coderre district. Following graduation, she attended Moose Jaw Teachers College and taught in various locations in southern Saskatchewan. It was while teaching at Trossachs that she married, raising a family on a farm west of Trossachs. She enjoyed gardening and baking, and was an amazing cook. Margaret always believed in lifelong learning and while her sons were attending university, she made the decision to return to school as a “Mature Student”, receiving her Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Regina.  She worked briefly as a librarian, but ill health forced her to retire to Selo Gardens in Regina in 1991. Margaret was an important part of the Selo Gardens community organizing activities and adventures for the social committee and participating in artistic opportunities.  Her time at Selo was an important period in her life and in her 27 years there she developed many treasured relationships.

Margaret had a zest for life and dealt with all of her life’s challenges and obstacles with a strong resolve and quiet acceptance. She was never focused on herself and instead was a care giver of the heart to all those that came into her life whether it be family, her friends or those providing care to her. Your personal struggles became her own concerns and she made every effort possible to let those around her know that she cared and that she would do whatever she could to help you.  Margaret was a good listener and treated everyone with kindness and respect.

The family would like to thank the many people over the years who have provided care and kindness to Margaret including her long time friend Lorna, her friends at Selo Gardens, her many doctors and specialists, the nurses and continuing care aides from RQHR Home Care,  the special people at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre including the team on Unit 2-6, the therapy, recreation and spiritual care teams, and the doctors and nurses at RGH Unit 6A that were so kind during her final days. So many individuals took such a special interest in her and made her quality of life so much better.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, a private memorial service will be held on Monday, May 25, 2020 at 1:30 pm, with a video livestream in lieu of in person attendance.
