Obituary of Orville Harvey Pratt
Orville passed away following three years of suffering with a rare, non-curable blood disorder on Friday, June 5, 2020 at the age of 84. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Vera Pratt; his brother William Pratt; sister Joy Anderson; brother-in-law Don Richardson; and lifelong friend Joe Kurz.
Orville was born and raised at Govan, SK. He moved to Regina with his parents following High School and immediately took up employment with the Provincial Government working in the Departments of Social Welfare, Highways and Health. He finished his 37-year career with the last 30 years in the Cancer Program. Orville loved the Cancer Program and was proud of his contribution to it. Other than his family, it was his life 24/7.
Orville was an avid curler right from his High School Days. When he moved to Regina, he joined the Public Health Saturday Night Mixed Curling League and curled there for 55 years. Orville loved the outdoors, especially hunting ducks and fishing. He fished in Northern Saskatchewan at Otter Lake every summer for 35 years. Orville hunted ducks every fall back at his hometown of Govan. He also hunted upland game birds at Mortlach, SK with the three Mazurak brothers and Joe Kurz.
Orville had many friends from the places he worked and the curling league. He kept in contact with them right up until the time of his death.
Orville loved his wife and family above all. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Pratt; his three children, Barbara Miller (Murray); Bev Neufeld (Jerry), and Bill Pratt; his two granddaughters, Kelsey St. Marie and Natasha Stinson (Dan). How his granddaughters loved to listen to his bedtime stories when young, and then any of his stories as they grew older! Orville is also survived by his sister’s grown children, Rayola, Paul and Marlo Anderson, as well as other nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a Private Graveside Service will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143 Stn. Main, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7.
Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little-but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me - but let me go
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Master’s plan
A step on the road to home
When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me but let me go.
