Vera (Veronica) Chadwick, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully with family beside her at Pasqua Hospital on July 3, 2020, one month shy of her 98th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Rafe Chadwick; parents Cora and Walter Swain and her four brothers, Omer, Leslie, Desi and Bill. Vera is survived by her five children, Donna (Marcel) Gravelle, Brenda (Jae) Hendrickson, Gordon (Diane) Chadwick, Paul Chadwick, Joy Chadwick (Kelly Kerr); nine grandchildren Shandelle Watson, Bryce Conrad, Pamela Gravelle, Chad Gravelle, Tricia Ladouceur, Kyla Medeiros, Devin Chadwick, Taylor Chadwick, Kelsey Chadwick; seven step-grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren including step great-grandchildren and many more members of her extended family. Vera was born in Timmins Ontario on August 6, 1922, the oldest of five children. She lived in Timmins until after she graduated from St. Mary’s school of Nursing in 1943. After working in the Timmins Hospital and then the Hamilton General Hospital, Vera enrolled in the public health nursing program at the University of Toronto.  It was in Toronto that Vera met the love her life, Rafe Chadwick who was attending the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. They were married in Timmins in 1947 and in 1949 moved west to Rafe’s hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan where she continued to nurse for several years. Vera enjoyed being active and in her younger years she loved cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, curling and skating. She continued this active lifestyle throughout her life. As a mother of five, she still found time to participate in bowling and curling leagues and loved playing bridge and walking.  Continuing her love of nursing and health care she was a volunteer at the Wascana & General Hospitals and the Red Cross Society. Vera was a member of Christ the King Parish for over 70 years and in 2017 received recognition for 65 years of service in the Catholic Women’s League. Vera loved her family, friends, and hosting events in her home.  She liked to dance and she and Rafe were never far from the dancefloor at a party or wedding and were most often the last to leave. Vera and Rafe were Roughrider season ticket holders for 49 years.  Vera rarely missed a Roughrider game on TV and always provided colour commentary, particularly related to coaching decisions. Vera was a loving and supportive wife, remarkable mother, a proud grandmother, a caring friend, and gracious hostess. Whether it was their home in Regina or their cottage on Katepwa Lake, Vera welcomed everyone. Vera’s family would like to express their gratitude to College Park for their exceptional care and compassion towards Vera in the last year and half.  Vera has touched many people’s lives with her warm-hearted and generous nature. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but all have solace in knowing that she has touched their lives in such a profound and impactful way. Due to Covid-19 the memorial service will be by invitation. In lieu of flowers the family would request that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, 301 - 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 and/or the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
